A real-life elevator story

Waiting for the elevator at Universal City Station

We took the monorail and train from Itami Airport to Universal City Station to visit Universal Studios.

Since Koro and Usa are in electric wheelchairs, it is difficult for them to go up and down stairs and escalators.

When we arrived at the station and headed for the elevator, a young couple with one large carry-on case was waiting for the elevator.

The trains are crowded when they arrive, and there were at least four or five groups of people with strollers in tow behind our group of electric wheelchair users.

But we saw them and rode the elevator up without a hitch.

I want you to think of it this way and look for it.

Of course, this does not mean that you should not take the elevator.

I understand that you are carrying heavy luggage, and you may not know that there is an escalator at the station.

But there are many people who have difficulty getting around without an elevator.

An online petition has been launched to help wheelchair users use JR trains more comfortably. When wheelchair users get on and off the train, they wait at the station or platform until they can contact the drop-off station. We hope that many people will become aware of this reality and that it will be a catalyst for change in society and its mechanisms.

In an elevator at the Osaka Metro.

When I was getting on the elevator at the Osaka Metro, the man who came after me tried to force me on quite a bit.

The elevator was crammed with two wheelchairs, myself, my carry-on case, and another friend.

In the end, my friend took the stairs, and the uncle who came later took the elevator.

He said he had a bad leg.

But no matter how bad his legs are, how can he push the person waiting ahead of him to get on the elevator?

Can’t he wait until the next elevator?

There is Corona, and I understand that they are in a hurry, but if they get on the elevator when it is crowded, they will be in trouble.

Usa

Corona can make you very sick with a disability, so I’d avoid the density!

But you have to ride the elevator to get around, so if there are a lot of people on it, I’d rather wait until the next one.

I believe that people in wheelchairs, baby strollers, and other people who have difficulty moving should have priority in elevators, but it is not the same as forcing them out of the way or asking them to give way with the feeling that “you have priority, so you should give way.

It would be nice if people who have difficulty moving can move around comfortably with a willingness to give way and a sense of gratitude on the part of the person who is given the right to move.

Take the elevator right outside Osaka Station.

When we went to the Umeda Sky Building from Osaka Station, we looked for an elevator and found one, but it didn’t seem to be an elevator for a station building, because it went up to a very high floor.

After looking for a few more elevators, we finally found one that looked like it could take us, although it was crowded, so I had my two wheelchair users take the elevator and my friend and I took the escalator to meet them downstairs.

When it is absolutely impossible to ride the elevator easily, we may have only two people in wheelchairs ride the elevator and use the escalator even if they are caregivers.

However, it is best if the caregivers can ride together in case something goes wrong.

If you see someone who has difficulty moving around, I hope you will consider the option of taking the escalator, even if it is on the way to the destination floor.

This time, I went to have a superb breakfast at Keio Plaza Hotel, which offers a superb breakfast, so I will write about it.

Hotel Information

It is a 4-star skyscraper hotel in Nishi-Shinjuku, with 11 restaurants, not only for staying but also for dining, weddings, conference rooms, and more.

As it is a large hotel, there are various plans available, but this time I stayed with the plan that includes an exquisite breakfast.

The superb breakfast is not available for visitors, so you have to stay overnight or use the day use plan with breakfast.

This hotel is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the West Exit of Shinjuku Station, and just up the stairs from Exit B1 from the Toei Oedo Line Tocho Station.

If you are coming from Shinjuku West Exit, you can go through the underground passage and exit from the Estech Information Building, which is close to the Keio Plaza Hotel, so you can get there without getting too wet in the rain.

A real taste of the finest breakfast!

The earliest reservation I could get in was at 6:30, so I went at 6:30 and was first in line.

We started with the egg dish!

I was so happy to be able to eat shrimp and crab in the morning, so luxurious ♡.

I really enjoyed all the pulled eggs and luxurious ingredients.

There was freshly cooked rice in an earthenware pot, open sandwiches topped with cut up salmon or ham, hot vegetables, and much more!

There was also Japanese food, including grilled fish and grated yam.

The salads were all delicious with homemade dressing, red wine vinegar and white wine vinegar, and lots of colorful vegetables.

As for drinks, there was unlimited champagne, but this time I only drank non-alcoholic drinks.

But there were just too many premium, rich-tasting juices like LaFrance juice and grated apple juice–too good!

There was a wide variety of desserts, not only the standard fresh fruit, but also cakes, danishes, and gelato.

The chef finished the Danish in front of us, and we told him what toppings we wanted and he would put them on, but we were greedy and asked him to put them all on (laugh).

There was also a sugar-free shortcake and a basque cheesecake, all of which were delicious.

The raw caramel sauce was so rich and delicious that I ate it straight off the bread instead of dipping it in it!

It was gorgeous and so delicious that I ate so much that I felt sick, but it was a really delicious breakfast that I would go back for if I had the chance.

What a surprise, this exquisite breakfast is ending on December 30, 2022 (´;omg).

I don’t know what kind of breakfast it will be from January, but I would like to go back to eat it when it comes back.

This time we introduced the “Superb Breakfast” at Keio Plaza Hotel, although it has already ended.

Although the “Superb Breakfast” is over, Keio Plaza Hotel offers various other plans such as Club Floor Stay with lounge access and Gastronomic Stay.

Tokyo Bay Tokyu Hotel is a relatively new 4-star hotel that opened in 2018.

All rooms have ocean views, so you can enjoy a resort-like atmosphere.

There is a bus stop in front of the Brighton Hotel, which is directly connected to Shin-Urayasu Station, from which you can take a free shuttle bus to the hotel, which takes about 10 minutes.

Tokyo Bay Tokyu Hotel is a “welcome baby” hotel, which means that there is a space for children to play, a nursing room, a diaper-changing room, and a room with picture books, toys, and other items available for children.

Although the hotel is a little far from the station, there is a Lawson inside the hotel, where you can use local coupons, so if you need to do some shopping, Lawson will be sufficient.

Since it is Halloween period, there were many people who dressed up in costumes at the hotel and took the bus directly to Disney.

Changing clothes in the restrooms in the Disney parks or in nearby restrooms is not allowed, so if you want to dress up, do it from your hotel room or from home!

About Free Shuttle Bus

There are two to three buses per hour between Shin-Urayasu Station and the hotel.

The red and yellow buses are very conspicuous and easy to recognize from a distance.

Please be careful not to get on other buses because there are also buses bound for Ibis Hotel, Art Grace, and Oedo Onsen Urayasu Bankago at the bus stop of Shin-Urayasu Station.

This hotel also has a direct bus service from the hotel to Tokyo Disneyland and Sea, which also runs two to three times an hour.

It takes about 10 minutes from the hotel to the Land and about 15 minutes to the Sea.

The hotel bus stop is located on the first floor, with separate lines for the Shin-Urayasu Station line and the Tokyo Disney Resort line.

About the room you stayed in

Again, I used Rakuten Travel points via Moppy and took advantage of the Chiba Tokubetsu Campaign to stay at the hotel on a 1-night stay with 2 meals plan.

At the time of reservation, I had a superior twin room [32 square meters] on the 3rd to 11th floors, but upon check-in I was upgraded to a slightly larger room on the 12th floor.

Bath and toilet were separate, and amenities such as lotion were from DHC.

It is a new hotel, so it is very clean, and I think it is a nice feature to have separate bath and toilet.

Neighborhood Information

Around Tokyo Bay Tokyu Hotel are Oedo Onsen, Trampoland, and Celebration Hotel, a Disney hotel.

We went to see the Celebration Hotel.

Celebration Hotel has a simple service style, so it is cheaper to stay there than other Disney hotels.
*However, it is located farther from the park than other Disney hotels.

Also, this hotel is eligible for the Chiba Tokubetsu Campaign, so if you want to feel the atmosphere of the parks at your hotel, this is a good choice!

The Celebration Hotel consists of two buildings, Wish and Discover.

Discover is a pink building with a theme of adventure and discovery, and has a sea-like atmosphere.

Wish was the yellow building and the theme was dreams and fantasy, so it had a Disneyland-like atmosphere.

Both buildings have a Disney Fantasy store, a Snack & Sandry convenience store, and a breakfast café.

Breakfast is available for 1,700 yen for adults and 700 yen for children, and you have to buy a meal ticket.

The hotel is not open for business except for breakfast, so dinner was served outside the hotel.

About Meals

Breakfast and dinner were served at the Coral Table restaurant on the second floor.

The lobby is on the second floor, so it was located near the front desk.

This time, since the plan included two meals, I was given a dinner and breakfast ticket at check-in.

In addition to Coral Table, there is also UMIKAZE TERRACE, which is open only during the summer season (Saturdays, Sundays, holidays from 7/17 to 9/11 and 8/12).

Dinner was a buffet of potato, chestnut, pumpkin & green tea fair, available only on weekends and holidays.

It was very good, with freshly fried tempura, sushi made right in front of you, roast beef, and Mont Blanc parfait made to order.

The freshly fried tempura was especially good, with a light and crispy batter.

The roast beef was also tender, stringy, and delicious, and I had a second helping.

There were many dishes using potatoes, chestnuts, and pumpkins, such as sweet potato and apple pizza with Earl Grey flavored dessert pizza, pumpkin and chicken white curry, and pasta with sweet potato, mushrooms, and bacon cream sauce.

Desserts such as green tea mousse cake and pumpkin pudding were also very delicious.

The Imo, Chestnut, Pumpkin & Green Tea Fair is available for 5,400 yen for adults, 3,200 yen for elementary school students, 1,600 yen for infants (from 4 years old), and free for children under 3 years old, even if you do not stay the night.

The event is held on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from September 3 (Sat) to November 6 (Sun), 2022, so if you want to try it, please make a reservation by November 6, 2010.

The window seat seems to be a popular seat as it offers a view of the ocean.

Tokyo Bay Tokyu Hotel’s breakfast was ranked No. 1 in Chiba Prefecture by Rakuten Travel’s Breakfast Festival 2019.

The hotel’s breakfast offers a colorful omelette made right in front of you, with a choice of plain, squid ink, or tomato flavor, and a choice of omelette, scrambled eggs, or Urayasu omelette as the cooking method.

The omelette can be plain or with bacon and cheese.

The Urayasu Omelette is an omelette with scallion and seaweed risotto.

You can also choose from three different sauces: onion demi-glace sauce, vegetable and bacon white sauce, or tomato ketchup.

With so many different combinations to choose from, you will want to try many.

As a recommended menu item, they recommend the squid ink omelet with asari and nori risotto, so I had that one.

The sauce was onion demi-glace sauce, and the asari and nori risotto had a nice flavor.

There was not that much variety for breakfast, but it seemed to have all the standard items such as bread, rice, yogurt, and corn flakes.

There was a cup of coffee available for takeout, so I took it out.

Food Presentation

There are six food presentations per day in the Zen Lounge.

The times and contents of the food presentations are as follows

7:00-10:00 Breakfast

17：30 – 20：00 Hors d’oeuvres
20:00-21:30 Night Cap

In other hotels, drinks are often served only during hors d’oeuvres, but in Zen Lounge, drinks are available at all times.

Drinks were brought to us when we asked the hotel staff and the menu could be viewed via QR code.

I will explain more about the food presentation.

afternoon tea

After checking in at 14:00, afternoon tea will begin at 14:30, although there will be a short wait.

At this time, I was able to enjoy cakes such as Pierre Hermé Paris shortcake, Ispahan, melon shortcake from SATSUKI, and marron shortcake and grape rolls from the “Super Sweets Buffet 2022 – Chestnut and Grape” currently being offered.

I was happy to enjoy the delicious cakes with a glass of champagne during the daytime ♡.

Each one was small, so we ate various kinds of cakes and scones.

In addition to the sweet cakes, there were also consommé soup, sausage pie, Edo rice crackers, and other savory foods, so when I got tired of the sweet cakes, I ate the savory ones.

I ate so much that I went to the Golden Spa to exercise to make myself a little hungry.

hors d’oeuvre

In the evening, you can have snacks (cheese, ham, etc.) to go with your drinks as hors d’oeuvres or light meals such as sandwiches.

The roast beef sandwich was delicious with tender meat and tasty onion.

We had it with a glass of champagne ♡.

There were also stick vegetables, so I had them with bagna cauda sauce.

There was a double consommé soup that was very rich.

Nightcaps included chocolate, macaroons, snacks, and dried fruit.

The Pierre Hermé bonbon chocolates were delicious.

There were also Pierre Hermé sablés and a meringue pastry called Pierre Hermé Croque Noisette.

There were two kinds of macarons, one was the same as the one at afternoon tea, but the other was chocolate flavored.

I feel a little guilty about eating something sweet before bed, but since I was up for it, I had to have it with a cup of rose hip tea!

You can choose to have breakfast at SATSUKI or room service, but you can also have breakfast at the lounge.

I ate at SATSUKI and did not have breakfast at the lounge, but I went to the lounge during breakfast time.

There were not many people there, so I could sit at any seat I wanted, and I sat at the window and enjoyed the view.

It was a clear day so I could see a bit of Mt.
I heard that it looks better in winter with snow on the ground.

By the way, most of the menu is also available at SATSUKI.

Also, it is not much different from what is served during the morning snack time. However, breakfast time has more items.

Morning Snack

The morning snacks are less breakfast items, and the scones and leaf pies are served here, but since scones and leaf pies are also served at afternoon tea, I got the impression that there is nothing new there.

However, the fruits are taken down after lunch, so if you want to eat fruits, it would be better to save them before the lunch.

During lunch time, a sun egg sandwich, a ham and cheese sandwich, a tuna sandwich and muffins were served.

The sun egg sandwich was rich and tasty, as it was made with their special eggs.

There was also sausage pie, which was available during afternoon tea.

I had a late checkout and checked out at 2pm, but since the checkout time is usually 12pm, it was crowded from before 12pm until about 12:30pm.

The lounge is available for 30 minutes after checkout, so many people had lunch and left.

Choice of breakfast at New Otani

What is the breakfast of choice?

For breakfast, you can choose from Zen Lounge, SATSUKI, Garden Lounge, Nadaman, and room service.

For room service, there is a choice of continental, American, or Japanese breakfast.

If you want room service breakfast, you need to make a reservation by 24:00 the day before, so please ask the concierge if you want to choose room service.

Reservations cannot be made for breakfast other than room service.

So please go directly to the breakfast room, it was explained to me when I checked in.

The New and Strongest Breakfast “SATSUKI

I chose SATSUKI, the most famous and newest and strongest breakfast at Hotel New Otani.

I heard that SATSUKI breakfast is very popular and there is sometimes a wait.

Breakfast at SATSUKI is served from 7:00 to 10:00, so we went there about a half past 7:00 and were able to get in without waiting.

People who are not staying at the hotel or who are not on a breakfast plan can also eat if they pay 6,000 yen for adults and 3,500 yen for children.

The chef makes the omelette right in front of you.

They use eggs from chickens raised on brown rice.

You can choose from seven different ingredients (ham, cheese, mushrooms, herbs, olives, vegetables, and cereal), and they also have a white omelet made only with egg whites.

I had the ham and cheese omelet and the herb omelet.

There were also other breakfast items such as steak, shumai, temari sushi, ham, salmon, etc., as well as porridge, soba/udon noodles, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and other breakfast-like items.

The bread was Pierre Hermé bread and was delicious.

There is a drink bar for drinks, but the staff was circling and asked if I would like hot coffee or tea. They asked me if I would like hot coffee or tea.

I would recommend SATSUKI’s breakfast because they have a variety of items and they are all delicious. (I found that SATSUKI’s breakfast was the most expensive in terms of price.)

Rooms where we stayed

I stayed in a standard double room (36 square meters).

When I entered the room, there was a baumkuchen as a welcome gift.

The room was not that spacious, but it was not too big for one person, and even if there were two people in the room, I think there would be enough space to spread out two carry-on cases.

The room I stayed in was close to the lounge, so I could see a little bit of the lounge.

Lodging Privileges

There is a one-woman-only plan that includes a 5,000-yen museum use coupon and late check-out privileges until 2 pm.

Guests staying at Executive House Zen can use the Zen Lounge, receive six food presentations a day, and enjoy complimentary access to the Golden Spa, a members-only gymnasium.

check-in

Check-in was at the Zen Lounge on the 11th floor.
When I told the front desk on the lobby floor of the Hotel New Otani that I had made a reservation at the Executive House Zen, a hotel staff member took my luggage and led me to the 11th floor lounge.

We were seated in chairs and taken in turns to be shown around.

I checked in while sipping a cup of hot ameyu, and was told about the hotel’s coupons and the events that were going on that day.

About the Event

On the day I went there, a tea master of Ureshino tea was just visiting and I was guided to the 3rd floor where he was going to hold a tea ceremony.

I was lucky enough to have the rare experience of having the tea master brew Ureshino tea in front of me.

I had two kinds of Ureshino tea, one brewed at 60°C and the other brewed at 60°C. The taste of the two teas is completely different, but the one brewed at 60°C is milder and the one brewed at 60°C is more bitter.

The tea was brewed at 60°C and the tea was brewed at 60°C. The tea at 60°C was milder and the tea at 60°C was more bitter.

Golden Spa

This is a membership facility at the Hotel New Otani where you can use the gym, sauna, and pool.
They lend you clothes and towels, so you can go empty-handed.

I stayed at the Executive House Zen and used it for free.

The number of people who can use the lockers here seems to be limited due to Corona, so tell the staff at the Zen Lounge or call the concierge from your room and let them know you want to use the lockers and they will check if they are available.

If there are lockers available, you can use them, so go to the Zen Lounge, get a ticket, and head to the Golden Spa.

When you go to the reception desk and present your ticket, you will be given a locker key and be able to use the spa.

I did not take pictures of the inside of the spa, but the gym area had most of the machines that you would find in a regular gym.
There was also a studio for yoga and other activities.

The pool is a smaller than normal pool (10 x 15 meters), so there is a limit of 4 people who can use it at the same time, and they can only use it for 30 minutes.

When I went there, there was only one person in the pool, so I was able to use it normally, but if there were already four people in the pool, they would have to wait in the Jacuzzi in the pool area.

There are staff members in the spa who will tell you anything you don’t understand if you ask them.

There are short-sleeved short pants and long-sleeved long pants, and I chose the short-sleeved short pants.

I chose short short-sleeved pants and short white socks that covered my ankles, so I looked like a junior high school student (laugh).

The amenities included shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and body cream by Ferragamo, an Italian brand.

The shampoo and conditioner from the hotel’s amenities smelled good and left my hair silky and shiny, whereas the shampoo and conditioner from the hotel’s amenities sometimes left my hair stiff.

There were cosmetics for both women and men. The women’s set included a skin care set called Omnisance Paris, and the men’s set included a lotion called Lissaje and a hair cream called Liquir for now.

There were two kinds of olive aroma bath oil (Rose and Garden) from Hotel New Otani as bath additives.
I tried the garden one, and the water was a little bit mild, but it made my skin very moist.

There was a loofah sponge, which I did not use, but my grandmother used to make them in the past, so I felt a little nostalgic.

There was also a mask, a mask case, a stick-type alcohol sterilizing spray, and even a toothbrush and mouthwash.

You don’t want to overdo it, but if you run out or something, they will bring it back if you ask.

Japanese-style garden

Hotel New Otani has a Japanese garden, which you can enter even if you are not staying at the hotel.

The first day was cloudy, but it was lit up at night and was beautiful.

The second day was sunny, so there were many people.

There were people in wheelchairs and pushing strollers in the Japanese Garden.

There is a bridge in the Japanese garden and one wheelchair can pass through it, but it is outside, so it was a little rickety in some places and it looked a little difficult.

I was on the 2pm late checkout plan, but normally checkout is at 12pm.

You can also check out while sitting in the Zen Lounge.

I paid for the hotel in advance using Rakuten Travel via MOPPY, but I paid the 200 yen accommodation tax in cash when I checked out.

I heard that you can use the lounge for 30 minutes after check-out, so those who checked out at 12:00 had lunch and left before 12:30.

I checked out at 2pm, had a little tea, and left.

In this issue, I will explain how the Shinjuku City Government’s “Ganbarou! Shinjuku Support Campaign,” which is a campaign by Shinjuku City to save money with cashless payment.

What is the Shinjuku Support Campaign?

This is a special campaign run by Shinjuku City, where you can get up to 25% points back if you make a cashless payment with PayPay, Rakuten Pay, d-pay, or auPay at participating stores in Shinjuku City.

However, there are some products and services that are not eligible for this campaign, so please check with the store for details.

Purchases of items similar to money certificates (stamps, stamps, postcards, QUO cards, various types of gift certificates, etc.), courier fees, utility bill payments, storage agency services, and various types of electronic money recharges and purchases are not covered.

Which stores are eligible?

Eligible stores are small and medium-sized businesses and individual stores in the retail, restaurant, and service industries in Shinjuku City that have introduced one of the four cashless payment methods mentioned above.

Eligible stores will have campaign posters and stickers in their stores during the campaign period.

How long is the campaign?

September 1, 2022 (Thursday) – September 30, 2022 (Friday)

The campaign will end when the maximum redemption amount (500 million yen equivalent) is reached, even during the campaign period.

What is the maximum grant limit?

There are four payment providers (PayPay, Rakuten Pay, d-pay, and auPay), and the maximum amount of reward is 2,000 yen per payment per payment provider, up to a total of 5,000 yen during the period.

What this means is.

• You can get up to 8,000 yen per purchase and get 2,000 yen back in points when you spend 8,000 yen.
• If you make a purchase of 8,000 yen, you will receive 2,000 yen back in points.

Since this is per payment provider, if you use all four payment providers’ 25% reduction eligibility, you can get 25% reduction on up to 80,000 yen of purchases and get 20,000 yen back in points.

This is a great deal.

When are the redeemed points awarded? What is the expiration date?

PayPay will grant PayPay points 30 days after the day following the payment. Points will not expire.

Rakuten Pay will grant Rakuten Points by the end of November. Points will not expire.

auPay points will be credited to your au PAY balance by the end of October. Points will not expire.

d-pay is scheduled to grant d-points until around the end of October. Points will not expire.

PayPay seems to be the fastest way to get points. Rakuten seems to take the longest time to receive points.

Information on stores that are actually running the campaign

I actually walked around Shinjuku Station and surveyed stores with campaign posters. I also introduced some restaurants where I actually ate and drank.

Butaboru Shinjuku

I entered this restaurant for lunch.

The restaurant is located toward the west exit of Shinjuku Station and was open for lunch.

All lunch menus are available for less than 1,000 yen.

Moreover, 90% of the customers were men in suits, as they were served a hearty meal with free refills of rice and miso soup.

I had the Karaage set meal, which was crispy and the meat was tender and delicious.

I think this restaurant is great for smokers because you can smoke here.

The only payment method that was applicable to the campaign was PayPay.

Taiwan Sweet Shop

Located on the second floor of Ain’s Torpe near the east exit of Shinjuku Station, this store mainly offers Taiwanese sweets.

Tapioca, bean-flavored flowers, Taiwanese shaved ice, etc. are available.

We actually had mango shaved ice at this restaurant.

The shaved ice was fluffy and delicious with mango on top. The tapioca was warm, so I ate the shaved ice and had tapioca as a chopstick break.

The only payment method that was eligible for the campaign was PayPay.

This is a ramen restaurant that has been in Shinjuku for 21 years.

They seem to be a restaurant that is particular about their chicken gara tonkotsu (pork bone) soup.

Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama has a restaurant called Le Jardin, Fast Shop Gift & Convenience, and Art Gallery Edm.

The Hilton Tokyo Bay is a hotel with many stores that can be used except Segafredo Zanetti Espresso and Disney Fantasy, so the Hilton was the one with many stores that can be used.

Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama is a 4-star hotel and an official hotel of Disney Resort.

The hotel has a central atrium and a southern European-style townscape, so you can enjoy an extraordinary feeling, not only for Disney purposes, but also for staycation purposes.

The hotel has Regular Floor, Garden Floor, Rainbow Floor, and Nikko Floor, and room types include Standard Room (28㎡), Superior Room (32㎡), Deluxe Room (40㎡), and Deluxe Family Room (56㎡), making it a good hotel for families.

Guests staying on the Nikko floor can use the exclusive lounge on the 12th floor.

If you are going by public transportation

1. Take the free shuttle bus from the south exit of Maihama Station, which will take you there in less than 10 minutes.
2. Get off at Bayside Station on the Disney Resort Line and take the free shuttle bus to the hotel or walk from Bayside Station, which takes about 5 minutes.

By car

1. From Tokyo: Approximately 7 minutes from the Kasai Ramp on the Bayshore Route of the Metropolitan Expressway.
2. From Chiba: 10 minutes from the Urayasu Ramp on the Bayshore Route of the Shuto Expressway.

Access to the Park

1. Take the free shuttle bus from the hotel to “Bayside Station” and take the Disney Resort Line.

It is one stop to Disney Sea and three stops to Disneyland.

2. Walk to “Bayside Station” station and take the Disney Resort Line.

*There is no direct bus service from Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama to the park.

About the Nikko floor where we stayed this time

check-in

Check-in time is from 3:00 p.m. I arrived at about 2:15 p.m. and went to the check-in counter and was able to check in normally and get into my room.

I was able to check in right away without waiting because of the early time.

Some hotels have a separate check-in counter or preferential treatment for guests staying on special floors, but this hotel did not seem to give preferential treatment to guests staying on Nikko floors.

Nicco Standard Room

I stayed in a Nikko Standard room on the 11th floor, which had two beds, a toilet, and a bathtub that was large enough for a woman to stretch her legs. The water pressure in the shower was strong.

Amenities included Mikimoto shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and cosmetics sets, and a welcome gift of chocolates.

There was nothing in the refrigerator, but there were two bottles of water and they were free. The lounge has an all-you-can-drink drink bar, so we had our drinks there.

From the window we could see Cinderella Castle, Beauty and the Beast Castle, and the new Toy Story Hotel.

Nikko Lounge

Located on the 12th floor, guests staying on Nikko floors can enter by holding up their room key.

The lounge has a large window with a view of Tokyo Bay and the Toy Story Hotel, although you cannot see the park.

There are also plenty of electrical outlets, which I thought was convenient for teleworkers.

Hours of operation are from 7:00 to 22:00, but services vary depending on the time of day.

7:00 to 10:30 a.m. Morning hours

Bread was served during morning hours.

On the day I stayed, there were three kinds of bread: croissants, muffins, and poire danish, blueberry jam, summer tangerine jam from the hotel, and strawberry jam.

The summer orange jam was delicious.

1pm to 4pm Tea time

At tea time, there were madeleines, macaroons, marron cakes, and other sweets, muffins, and danishes.

It was nice to be able to eat a variety of sweets in small sizes, and since they were made by the hotel, they tasted delicious.

5:30 to 8 p.m. Cocktail hour

Alcohol and snacks are served at this time.

There were Temari Sushi, sandwiches, crackers, vegetable sticks, etc. I was excited to see my favorite salmon as Temari Sushi!

I was so excited to see my favorite salmon in the form of “Te-mari-zushi”!

I got there just before 5:30pm and there were seats available, but the people who came after me were told that the restaurant was full and they would be shown in order.

I was asked to use 1 hour when it was crowded.

8pm to 10pm Night time

Snacks were offered, dried fruit and caramel popcorn pretzels.

I was not hungry at all after eating too many teatime snacks and cocktail hour food, so I went there after 9:30pm and there was not much left.

I’d recommend the Nikko floor if you’re looking for a staycation at a great value, since using the lounge will save you money on drinks and food!

*Taking food and drinks out of the lounge is prohibited.

About Breakfast

Breakfast is served at Le Jardin restaurant from 6:30 to 10:30 (last order is 10:00).

You will be given a breakfast ticket when you check in, so take it with you.

I went there before 7:00 a.m. so I didn’t have to wait long to get in, but it seemed to take a while as the hotel staff showed us around one by one.

I was told that all the window seats were occupied, so if you want to have breakfast with a view, it would be better to go around the time breakfast starts.

Breakfast was prepared in front of you in a performance kitchen, and the menu included hamburgers, omelets, omelets with Japanese soup stock, and rice balls.

There were not only Japanese and Western dishes, but also pho and Chinese congee, so I thought there was quite a large selection.

The breakfast coupon is actually for use at Le Jardin for dinner, not breakfast. If you are an early riser or not in the habit of eating breakfast in the morning, I thought it would be good to use it for dinner.

However, breakfast is more expensive and has more items, so I recommend using the breakfast coupon for breakfast.

When I checked in, I was informed that check-out time was basically 12:00 p.m., and that if I did not have to pay for my room, I could simply put my room key in the box.

I happened to see a hotel employee in the elevator and he said, “If you want to check out, I will receive your room key if you want.

It was nice that it did not take long to check out.

Before Corona became popular, I liked traveling, Disney, cameras, and board games. Whenever I traveled or went to Disney, I always took my SLR camera with me to take pictures and play board games with friends. I have my own board games and have even created a board game club at my company. Now it’s hard for me to get together with people much, so I’m into cooking, playing poi, and staycations!

Riii-san, you have changed jobs twice! And with no experience! Can you tell us about your career path?

After graduating from college, I joined a real estate company as a new graduate in a clerical (general) position. However, the company had a high turnover rate, so I was given non-clerical work to fill in for people who had quit. When I thought about changing jobs, I decided that I wanted to choose my own work and environment, and in order to achieve this, I thought it would be better to have a job in hand, so I changed jobs to become an engineer at an SES company with no experience. I worked hard for three years, but because it was a subcontracting company, I was only doing testing and simple modifications, so I could not acquire any skills at all. I wanted to be involved in the upstream process, so I changed jobs to a company where I could work on planning, which is the most upstream process.

*SES…(System Engineering Services) is a type of outsourcing contract and refers to technical support services that dispatch engineers for specific tasks such as software and system development, maintenance and operation.

The trick is to think carefully about why you are quitting and what you want to achieve at your next job, and to be able to talk about why you are changing jobs and why you want to do it during the interview based on what you have thought about. I think it is also important to think about whether there is any connection between the job you want to do and your current job or past experience, and how you will make use of your past experience at your new company.
